The Office of the Pension Funds Adjudicator (OPFA) is a statutory body established under Section 30B of the Pension Funds Act, No. 24 of 1956 (Act).
The OPFA is responsible for investigating and resolving complaints related to pension funds, with its decisions being legally binding and equivalent to civil court judgments. The OPFA handles complaints related to pension funds registered under the Act, including Provident Funds, Retirement Annuity Funds, and Preservation Funds.
Complaints may involve instances where a fund has failed to comply with its rules and the Act, or acted inappropriately, including instances where payments due have not been made. In addition, the OPFA handles complaints about failures by employers or other parties associated with the fund.
