Press Release: The Ombud Council notes the appointment of the new Pension Funds Adjudicator

Nov 5, 2025

Released 5 November 2025

The Ombud Council is very pleased to note the Minister of Finance’s appointment of Mr Lebogang Mogashoa as Pension Funds Adjudicator with effect from 8 December 2025.

The Office of the Pension Funds Adjudicator (OPFA) is a key pillar of the financial sector ombud system, supporting fair outcomes for pension fund members by providing equitable, independent resolution of pension related disputes. The Ombud Council congratulates Mr Mogashoa on being chosen to lead this important entity and we wish him, and the OPFA under his leadership, every success.

The Ombud Council is mandated by the Financial Sector Regulation (FSR) Act, 2017, to assist in ensuring that financial customers have access to and are able to use affordable, effective, independent and fair alternative dispute resolution processes for complaints about financial institutions. It performs this role through regulatory oversight over financial sector ombud schemes, including the OPFA. The Council looks forward to working with and supporting Mr Mogashoa and his team as they continue to build on the OPFA’s admirable track record and support our vision of a known, trusted and easily accessible ombud system for all in the financial sector.

We take this opportunity to thank and congratulate the outgoing Pension Funds Adjudicator, Ms Muvhango Lukhaimane, for her longstanding, unwavering commitment to the OPFA’s work. Her professionalism, dedication and leadership have enabled the OPFA to make a meaningful difference in the lives of many South Africans, and to make the retirement funds sector as a whole work better for its customers.

The Ombud Council wishes both Mr Mogashoa and Ms Lukhaimane all the best.

Ms Leanne Jackson
Chief Ombud (CEO)
