[VACANCY] - A&R COMMITTEE MEMBER

INVITATION FOR APPLICATIONS: MEMBERSHIP OF THE AUDIT AND RISK COMMITTEE OF THE OMBUD COUNCIL (1 VACANCY)

 The Ombud Council, a public entity established by the Finance Sector Regulation Act, 9 of 2017, (FSR Act) with a statutory mandate to exercise regulatory oversight over the financial sector ombud system, is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons, to serve as a member of the Audit and Risk Committee of its Board. The term of office for the appointed member will be four years, effective from 01 December 2024 to 30 November 2028.

The Ombud Council is required by section 51(1) of the Public Finance Management Act to establish an Audit Committee. It is also required by section 187(1)(b) of the FSR Act to establish a Committee to review, monitor and advise the Board on risks to the Ombud Council. In light of the size and resources of the Ombud Council, the Board has established a single Audit and Risk Committee to meet these requirements.

Interested persons must meet the following minimum knowledge, and experience requirements:

  • a relevant degree (NQF Level 8 or equivalent)
  • certification as a Chartered Accountant
  • experience as a member of an Audit Committee of a PFMA-listed public entity
  • experience in corporate governance, business, and financial management at an executive level
  • in-depth understanding of risk management, accounting, and audit processes, including experience in reviewing annual financial statements and related reporting
  • experience in implementing legislation and policies such as the PFMA, GRAP, National Treasury Regulations, and relevant practice notes
  • excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

The following knowledge and experience will be advantageous:

  • experience on the Audit Committee of a Schedule 3A public entity, and a levy-funded entity in particular
  • knowledge of financial sector legislation, such as the Financial Sector Regulation Act, financial sector levy related legislation, and other financial sector-specific laws
  • knowledge of alternative dispute resolution processes and consumer protection frameworks.

It is the applicant’s responsibility to have foreign qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
